Pawnee Buttes Trail
Nicknamed the "earliest cemetery in Colorado" because of the abundance of mammalian fossils, the two prominent sandstone Pawnee Buttes tower above the open prairies around. A 3-mile out-n-back trail leads from the trailhead to the West Butte. The trail continues onwards to the East Butte but crosses private property so bikers and hikers are discouraged from trespassing further. While relatively short, the Buttes Trail offers bikers a nice, interesting sidetrack while riding the much longer Pioneer Trail.
