Lost Lake to Buffehr Creek Trail
The trailhead lies 2.5 miles up Lost Lake Road north of Vail.  Heading off on the singletrack, bikers quickly arrive at Lost Lake, a small alpine lake lined with lily pads and surrounded by the distant snowcapped peaks of the Gore Range.  The trail wraps around the lake then climbs onto a forested ridge overlooking Piney Lake to the north.  Weaving through lodgepole pines, the rest of this intermediate trail rides along the top of the ridge to end at the intersection with Red Sandstone Creek Road.  Turning left at the road, we come to the start of the Buffehr Creek Trail off to the right.  After an initial climb, the trail cruises through dense aspen groves then drops steeply via a series of tight, rocky switchbacks down the hillside into West Vail where shuttle vehicles should've been left waiting. Look for sign by side of road.
