Devil's Backbone Open Space
It wasn’t until a few years ago that one of Larimer County’s most impressive and striking geological landmarks was opened to mountain bikers.  The Devil’s Backbone had originally been opened to hikers; indeed, there is still a “hiking only” trail that leads hikers to the base of the backbone.  Aside from offering views of an interesting geological formation, as well as swirling raptors overhead, the aptly named Devil’s Backbone delivers mountain bikers a technically challenging trail in exposed and rocky terrain.  Due to the trail’s exposure, be sure to drink enough water, wear plenty of sunscreen, and try to complete the ride before or after the hottest hours of the day.
