COLORADO TRAIL: Mt. Princeton Road to South Cottonwood
This 6-mile segment of the Colorado Trail provides arguably the best riding in the Buena Vista/Nathrop area.  While there are several ways to ride this, an out-n-back from Mt. Princeton Road is perhaps the best.  By doing so, riders can avoid the miles of steep, loose gravel (hike-a-bike) at the South Cottonwood end.  Also, riding this section as an out-n-back eliminates the need for shuttles.  The tread is almost entirely singletrack weaving through dense pine forests along the foot of Mt. Princeton.  At some points, the hillside opens up so riders may view eastward across the vast Arkansas River Valley.  Climbs can be intense especially as the trail drops in and out of creek drainages.  At the turn around point, just before the final steep drop down to Cottonwood Pass Road, riders can enjoy the amazing view of Mt. Yale. Very limited parking here at the start of the singletrack.  Park at Mt. Princeton parking lot and ride up the road if you have a big group.
