Schofield Pass Road to Crested Butte
Schofield Pass (10,710') is the lowest, easiest pass between the Roaring Fork Valley and Crested Butte. Making an overnight trip of this 23-mile ride is a good introduction to mountain bike touring, and the canyon and river scenery give little way to the alpine spectacle of the higher passes. Excepting the two miles east of Crystal, the going is easy to moderate with only a few miles of rocky road. From the top of the pass into Crested Butte it's smooth and fast, with the last several miles paved.
