Lower Crag Crest Trail
Designated as a National Recreation Trail in 1978, Crag Crest is one of the most spectacular trails in the Grand Mesa area. The entire loop consists of an Upper portion (closed to bikers) that runs along the knife-edge ridge up to the top of Crag Crest and the mellower Lower portion which meanders through the hills and lakes which dot the base of the ridge. Bikers are limited to riding Crag Crest as a 10-mile out-and-back with a the option of hiking onto the spectacular ridgeline in the middle. Of course, the views along the ridge are not to be missed, at points offering panoramic vistas of the Bookcliffs, Battlement Mesa, and the rugged San Juans.
