COLORADO TRAIL: Kenosha Pass to Jefferson Campground
One of the most heavily used segments of the Colorado Trail is the portion that runs the six miles west from Kenosha Pass on US Hwy 285 to the Jefferson Campground. The trail abounds with hikers all summer, but is especially crowded when the abundant aspen forests put on their autumnal display in September. Mountain bikers also enjoy the scenery the trail offers. The trail is generally hardpack gravel, with some heavily rooted areas near the pass. The grade is moderate throughout, with perhaps 800 feet of elevation loss and gain along the way. It is generally ridden out-n-back, for a total distance of about 12 miles.
Park at west side of Hwy 285.
